The name Villa Fidelia® comes from a 19th-century villa located just 500 metres from the estate, which is part of the historical and cultural heritage of the town of Spello. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level. The mild climate of this area guarantees wines of high quality. These vineyards were planted around the year 2000.
The harvest takes place in September and, depending on temperatures and the ripeness of the grapes, may start somewhat later, giving the grapes higher acidity and better aromas. After harvesting, the first fermentation takes place over 15 days in steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
After this time the wine is aged in 228-litre barriques for 12 months. After bottling, this wine is aged for a further 24 months in the bottle before being marketed.
This wine has been made by the famous winemaker Riccardo Cotarella since 1998 — a very special collaboration with a winemaker who earned his reputation at his Falesco estate in Montecchio near Terni in Umbria.
The colour of this wine is intense red, with complex notes of blackberry jam, tobacco, herbs, liquorice and chocolate on the nose. On the palate the wine is elegant with well-balanced, creamy tannins that pave the way for a long, full drink.
