The Assisi Rosso DOC from Sportoletti is a beautiful combination of 3 grape varieties. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level and were planted in 1999. Here too, the climate is mild, with winter temperatures rarely dropping below 0 °C. Spring is usually warm with occasional rain, and summer is quite hot, allowing the grapes to ripen well.
The harvest begins in the very first days of September with the Merlot. The Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon follow afterward. Right after harvesting, the grapes are brought straight to the winery and kept for the first fermentation for 10 to 15 days at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. After this period, the wine continues to age, undergoing a second stage of maturation in barrique for several months before being bottled. After a final maturation in the bottle for 6 months, the Sportoletti Rosso is ready to be released to market.
This ruby red wine with purple hues is very fresh, with notes of cherries, blackberries, spices, and a hint of chocolate on the nose. Smooth and well-structured on the palate, with pleasant tannins on the finish.
