The Sportoletti Grechetto is a white wine with a straw-yellow colour and is one of the few native grape varieties of Umbria. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level and were planted in 2001. Because of the mild winter climate, this area is very well suited to viticulture.
Summer in Umbria is warm to hot, so the grapes can ripen well and produce good wines.
The harvest begins in the second week of September and must be completed within a short time to protect the quality of the grapes. A rich soil with stones and organic matter from the erosion of Monte Subasio, which consists of limestone, influences the flavour.
After harvesting, the grapes are taken directly to the cellar, destemmed and, after an initial six-hour rest, gently pressed. This wine matures in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of no more than 16 °C, and after five months of ageing the bottles are filled.
The Sportoletti family has produced this wine from the very beginning, which shows the family’s heart for its region. An intense straw-yellow colour with notes of jasmine, white pear, peach and golden apple on the nose. Warm yet gentle on the palate, with a touch of minerality and a subtle fresh mint.
