Cantina Sportoletti Spello

Cantina Sportoletti, Spello.

Cantina Sportoletti in Spello

Cantina Sportoletti in Spello falls under the Assisi DOC wine region, which was established in 1997. The family, now in its 4th generation, produces a small range of wines, but they are all unique and well worth discovering! Umbriaweine discovered this wine house in November 2017 and, during our visit, enjoyed a lovely tour followed by a wine tasting. We immediately decided to add these lovely wines to our portfolio.

Sportoletti’s wines are good wines, thanks to the right mild climate in this part of Umbria. All of Sportoletti’s wines are of the highest quality. This estate offers only a very small range of wines: 2 red wines, 2 white wines and 1 Passito (dessert wine), so quality is always in the foreground. The whole family works in the estate, which grew out of a farm. At the end of the 1970s, the brothers Ernesto and Remo converted it and decided to focus exclusively on winemaking. And they have succeeded very well!

Umbriaweine is proud to market these wines, and the family greatly appreciates that the wines are now also sold in Germany. The Sportoletti wine house is a very lovely discovery with a small palette of beautiful wines.

Poggio Lupo, Allerona

Poggio Lupo, Allerona

Poggio Lupo in Allerona produces special wines from local grape varieties such as Verdello, a medieval variety.
The vines of this variety are already around 60 years old. Over the past few years, owner Massimo Morgante has completed his project: the new construction of the cellar, including 4 guest rooms on a hill near Allerona.

Poggio Lupo, worth a visit! Discover the wines and explore the surroundings. Part of the access road is a “strada bianca”: known from cycling tours in Tuscany, for example. Public roads that are not asphalted. From this special location of the estate, you have a distant view of the cathedral of Orvieto! Very beautiful to see from a distance of over 15 km.

More info can be found on the website of Poggio Lupo!

The wines of Poggio Lupo are exclusively available at Umbriaweine. Click here for the overview.

Castello di Montegiove

Cellar Castello Montegiove

Castello di Montegiove has a history spanning many centuries. From the very beginning, wine and olive oil have been produced here. The Misciattelli Mocenigo Soranzo family has owned this castle with over 1,200 hectares since the 17th century. Since 2008, the successor Lorenzo has taken over the whole estate and has had the castle, including the cellar, renovated.

Montegiove belongs to the Orvieto wine region and produces 1 white wine, 1 rosé wine and 4 red wines, plus a top-quality DOP olive oil. These products are now available at Umbriaweine. Wines with grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Canaiolo Nero. These wines are dedicated to the ancestors who made all of this possible.

The estate today has around 9 hectares of vineyards that have been replanted over the past decades. In addition, hundreds of olive trees, some of which are over 100 years old.

Olivenöl Frantoio Carlo Peltristo, Pietrafitta

Olivenöle von Carlo Pelstristo, Pietrefitta

Olive oil by Carlo Peltristo. Top quality from Pietrafitta and exclusively from the first cold pressing.
A true family business: Carlo is the 4th generation, and his family has been producing the best olive oils in this village with passion since 1870, which are then marketed.

We at Umbriaweine are proud to have met him and to combine his friendly nature with interesting olive oil tastings, where he tells us about the different varieties he uses. The harvest (usually) begins in mid-October and ends in the first weeks of December. That is when our olives are at their best quality, according to Carlo. Only then can we guarantee the best-quality olive oil for our customers, who are very important to us.

Frantoio Peltristo produces various oils, but also oils with different flavours.
Think of garlic, lemon, ginger, peperoncino and more, all for a healthy and long life! Quality of life comes first in Umbria, and the inhabitants of this region are known for cooking a lot with regional and seasonal products. So no strawberries in winter, but rather oranges or lemons.

Let yourself be delighted by the unique quality of these olive oils and live like the inhabitants of Umbria.
