Wine journey Umbria

In April 2025 we organised our first trip to Umbria. With a group of 7 people, we made a 7-day wine, culture and culinary journey, during which we visited 6 of our winemakers and also included an olive oil tasting.

Umbria has many different wines and dishes that you will then discover together with us. From the north, in Umbertide, Lake Trasimeno, Orvieto, to Montefalco, the home of Sagrantino. Travel with us and get to know Umbria.

Are you interested in such a trip? Write me an email at: andre@umbriaweine.de. I will then inform you personally. All of this without obligation, of course. The expected cost per person will be around € 1,395.00, including overnight stays, wine tastings, and some lunches and dinners.

Not included in this price:

Travel by plane or your own vehicle to Umbria. If you come by plane, we will pick you up from the airport. Flight to Perugia – Assisi airport.
Personal expenses.
Breakfast and/or other dinners or lunches.
Talk to us: much extra is possible for a small additional charge.

The next trip is planned between 15 and 31 May 2026, but for a group we can also organise a trip for you at other times! We will announce a complete programme here soon.

Thank you very much,

André Keuter

La Veneranda, Montepennino (Montefalco)

Cantina La Veneranda, Montepennino (Montefalco)

Since 1568, wine, olive oil and more have been produced on this estate. The name “La Veneranda” originated in the 19th century, but has only been used for a number of years.

La Veneranda, in English “the venerable one”, goes back to a woman who was very socially minded and tried to reduce the poverty of the inhabitants. She was very committed to the local people and created work and income.

Vineyard Cantina La Veneranda

The winemaker Roberto has run the estate since the early 2000s and makes good wines according to the tradition of the small town of Montefalco. This naturally includes a full-bodied Sagrantino, alongside the widely grown Grechetto vines.

For more info, feel free to visit the website of La Veneranda!

Tenuta Vitalonga Ficulle

Tenuta Vitalonga

North of Orvieto, on the crest of the hills at an altitude of 450 metres, lies the Tenuta Vitalonga. Surrounded by magnificent forests and gorges, this is one of the most beautiful areas of the wine region in the western part of Umbria. The village of Ficulle is the home of this enchanting estate. The very name “Vitalonga” lovingly describes the close relationship between people and nature.

In earlier decades, at the first wine tasting in autumn, the farmers wished for a long life, which in Italian is “vita lunga”. Indeed, the family has always had a lively relationship with nature. Agriculture was passed down from generation to generation. The wine grown here contains, on the one hand, decades of experience, and on the other hand, modern knowledge of the natural cultivation of vines. In this spirit, environmental awareness and responsibility for the land are naturally close to the family’s heart.

 A piece of history:

Since the 1960s, only red wine was produced at the Vitalonga estate. This changed in the year 2000, when the Maravalle family decided to also produce white wine and a rosé wine. This first delicious vintage appeared in 2004 and delighted wine connoisseurs from the very first bottle.

The estate is divided into the vineyards “Poggio”, “Montiano”, “Laghetto” and “Noce”. The soils here on the western side are clayey-sandy, while the vineyards “Cipresso”, “Maria” and “Elcione” contain a far higher proportion of sand. Here, very characteristically for the Umbria region, one finds fossil elements such as shells and thus also a high mineral content. They give the wine of the Tenuta Vitalonga a clearly recognisable tendency of mineral origin. Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet are grown with a density of 5,400 vines per hectare.

More info about the Vitalonga estate can be found on this website!

About us | Umbriaweine introduced

Here we present fine wines from Umbria. The region between Tuscany and the Marche has, in its recent history, impressed not only with a stunning landscape. The farmers here also produce marvellous wines. In particular, we give the small wine producers of Umbria the opportunity to make a name for themselves in Germany as well. Even without international business relationships, the white wines, red wines and especially the dessert wines from Umbria are interesting in taste. In first-class quality and directly from the producer, we now also offer Italian wines from the Umbria region in Germany. These are wines that are usually only sold in Italy. So you have an exclusive advantage when you buy delicious wines from the Grechetto grape, Sangiovese or Trebbiano Spoletino at Umbriaweine.de.

A holiday with consequences …

Umbriaweine.de is a company founded out of a passion for Umbria. What began as a first short holiday grew into a long-standing love. The joie de vivre, but also the high quality of life in this region, is fascinating. Not least, Umbria is also called the “green heart of Italy”. And that is indeed what it is. Wide fields, exceptionally good agriculture and many productive vine slopes present this wonderful region. Over the years, we have got to know various wine estates. These include Cantina Sportoletti in Spello, Cantina La Veneranda in Montepennino, not far from Montefalco, Tenute Vitalonga in Ficulle and other estates. With each further visit, we naturally also expand the range in the Umbriaweine.de online shop. Discover the heart of Italy right on your doorstep!
